This turn of the century family compound has been enjoyed by five generations who still come to rock on the porches, swim in Lake Michigan and enjoy one of Leland’s finest beaches. The Big Cottage with its magnificent stone fireplace sits on a hill in the pine forest and looks out to the Manitou Islands to the west and to a walled “orchard” to the east. Combined with The Little Cottage next door and a newly converted Carriage House, it sleeps up to 20, making this a perfect spot for a family reunion. Or rent the cottages individually and still have your privacy due to the generous size of the Joyes Cottage property.
The cottage is located within easy walking distance to the village of Leland at the entrance to the quiet Indiana Woods. Leave the car behind and walk to town for an ice cream, a library book or a sandwich at the Cheese Shanty. And don’t forget to head down the stone stairs to the beach for sunset over the islands! Our family’s favorite activities include sailing, kayaking, hiking, golf and biking beautiful Leelanau County. A Sunfish and two kayaks are available. Young and old alike will be delighted to relax here with the sound of the waves right out the window and the 250 foot private beach just a stone’s throw away.
Leelanau County is the “Land of Delight.” From the first early flowers in May to the scarlet and gold of an October day, you will find it a place to relax and reconnect. The National Scenic Lakeshore is just down the coast and the Ferry to the Manitou Islands leaves from Historic Fishtown in the Leland Harbor. Wineries and fine dining abound and the Farmers Market provides some of the bounty for your table each Thursday.
